Cancer immunology

Mădălina Alexandru

I am a researcher specialising in cancer immunology with a particular focus on the crosstalk between monocytes, macrophages, and the tumour microenvironment (TME).

My research centers on understanding the immune mechanisms driving cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) in patients diagnosed with the rare skin disorder, Recessive Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa (RDEB).To further advance these studies, I am developing a 3D skin organotypic model that accurately mimics the cell-cell interactions and tumour-stroma dynamics within the TME at various stages of the disease. With this model, I aim to closely replicate the immune landscape and fibrosis characteristic of RDEB-cSCC, enabling for therapeutic target analysis.
