Dr. Silvia Mihăilă

Dr. Silvia Mihailă is a post-doctoral scholar in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Utrecht University (The Netherlands). Her research focuses on the development of functional tissue analogues using tissue engineering and regenerative medicine approaches to address specific renal pathologies. She is particularly interested in creating advanced in vitro models that address co-morbidities associated with renal failure to uncover potential therapeutic targets. She is also involved in the development of a bioartificial renal unit capable of actively removing uremic toxins and is the initiator of a centre of expertise in microfluidics at Utrecht University. Given her previous experience in tissue bone engineering, Silvia focuses on establishing the bone-kidney axis using organ-on-chip technology.
