Andreea Nădăban

Andreea Nădăban is in the fourth year of her PhD in the field of bio-pharmaceutical sciences, at Leiden Academic Centre for Drug Research, Leiden University, Netherlands.

Andreea’s research primarily focuses on understanding the causes of inflammatory skin diseases (such as eczema or psoriasis). In the diseased skin, the concentration of some classes of lipids in the outermost layer of the skin (named stratum corneum) is modified compared to healthy skin and the protective barrier provided by the skin is not as functional. Thus, through the projects she works on, Andreea creates artificial models of the stratum corneum which are similar to the lipid composition in human skin and investigates these differences in lipid concentrations and their effects on the protective barrier naturally provided by the skin.

Her academic training includes a master’s degree in Analytical Sciences (chemistry) at the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands and bachelor’s studies in chemistry at the West University of Timișoara.
